From 18 June to 25 September 2022, artists Hannes Egger and Thomas Sterna have rented an exhibition space at KulturBahnhof Kassel and given other artists a chance to win a one-week presentation slot during documenta fifteen. Leaving the decision up to chance rather than a panel of experts, any artist, curator or exhibition organiser interested could enter the prize draw by simply purchasing a raffle ticket. The 13 winners, selected in a total of four draws, were then free to show their works without any requirements regarding content and/or aesthetic input. But not all winners decided to exhibit their own works: Some organised group exhibitions, others gave their slot away. The results varied greatly and were surprising, often breaking with conventional notions of art and standards of evaluation.
The project ended with a panel discussion in the ruruHaus at documenta fifteen with the curatorial team ruangrupa.

Kulturbahnhof Kassel

We picked the lucky number. Inspired by Documenta 15, which attempts to strengthen the importance of collaboration, we are testing our own collective skills in the shop gallery of the Kulturbahnhof. Our three-way exchange is not the first one. Together we try to ask our questions concerning our living space.

In his works, Pascal Lampert investigates the various environments in which we daily move, consciously or unconsciously by closely observing and sounding out space. The experiences and discoveries are realized in a medium that corresponds to the form and content of the artwork. In this way works are created in parallel in the fields of performance, audio, video and painting. All his works are anchored in a fundamental feeling which, for all the clarity of the form, always considers its transience.

Christine Camenisch and Johannes Vetsch have been working over many years on space-filling video installations that overwrite the surrounding architecture and transform the solid structure into something in motion. Their main interest is movement. It is the characteristic of their minimalist video loops of nature shots in which wind and water only manifest themselves through the generated movement. The apparent repetition reveals itself in a continuous, new play of forms.
