Wolfgang Gemmer‘s artistic focus is on object art and installations, whereby the objects are often humorous, while the installations tend to be political or socially critical.

He doesn’t make anything himself, but puts his ‘found objects’ into a different context. Gemmer prefers to use things that already exist, often in large quantities, which is then presented in corresponding serial works.

In the exhibition space at the Kulturbahnhof Kassel, he shows a situation that addresses vacancies in the broadest sense. It is, after all, a shop, in a strange location. There are many such locations, and just as many shop openings where one wonders why here and for whom.

So he tries to simulate an upcoming shop opening, with objects that look high-class, that shine. Objects that, however, on closer inspection do not reveal any use and may end up irritating. And after a few days the shop is empty again …
