For the duration of documenta fifteen, artists Hannes Egger and Thomas Sterna will give away a series of one-week presentation slots in a rented exhibition space at KulturBahnhof Kassel to participating artists.
12+1 solo exhibitions are up for grabs: In a total of three draws held between May and August 2022, thirteen artists can each win a slot to show their artworks.
The exhibition project will be accompanied by a symposium discussing new ways and chances of selecting and providing access to public and private exhibition spaces.
Drawing lots is a key part of democratic decision-making that dates back to ancient times. Now, in parallel with the documenta fifteen world art show in Kassel, the Win-Win Lottery will see the process introduced to the art world – as an orderly selection tool.

Die Künstler Hannes Egger und Thomas Sterna mieten während der documenta fifteen im Kulturbahnhof von Kassel (D) einen Ausstellungsraum an und verlosen einwöchige Präsentationen an Künstler*innen.
Im Rahmen von drei Ziehungen zwischen Mai und August 2022 gewinnen 13 Künstler*innen eine Einzelpräsentation.
Ergänzt wird das Ausstellungs-Projekt durch ein Symposium, bei dem neue Möglichkeiten der Auswahl und des Zugangs zu öffentlichen und privaten Ausstellungsräumen erörtert werden.
Nicht nur in der Antike war das Los eine Möglichkeit, demokratische Entscheidungen herbeizuführen. Mit der Win-Win-Lottery zieht das Los als Auswahlkriterium nun in den Kunstbereich – parallel zur Weltkunstausstellung documenta fifteen in Kassel, ein.
